New Visitation Policy Effective 6/8/2020

POLICY:

Ohio requires each congregate site to develop a Visitation Policy that will define specific guidelines based on the situation of their community and/or individual resident situations and safety. This policy will be communicated to residents and families no later than the effective date of June 8, 2020. Additionally, residents and families will receive education on COVID-19 symptoms and transmission and the importance of following visit protocols that have been initiated to maintain the safety of residents, visitors and staff. This policy will be maintained and revised as needed or directed. Residents and families will be notified by mail, email, phone, Edgewater Facebook or website of changes to the visitation policy.

Each community is empowered to develop their visitation policy according to but not limited to the following factors:

Physical plant. Availability of sufficient outdoor space and configuration of the space.
Staff availability for monitoring visits/supervising sanitation station and visitor screening.
Availability of face coverings.
Existence or lack of active COVID-19 in the building.
Resident characteristics, both the resident population as a whole and for specific residents.

PROCEDURE:

Residents will be allowed one visitor per scheduled time. Visitation will be restricted to the northwest and southwest screened porches. The length of time allocated for the visit is approximately 30-minutes. Reservations are required by calling, 614/873-9700, and will be made based on availability. The time schedule for visitation is as follows:

Visitors should arrive promptly and remain in their car until appointed time and respect visit time limits. Staff will escort visitors to the visitation area upon arrival. Residents and visitors should remain in the visit area for the duration of their visit. Visits will be scheduled ahead of time to ensure safe space and adequate staffing and will be time limited with the number of visitors at any one time defined per visitation policy.

Visitors must be at least 18 years old. Visitors will be screened, and temperature taken upon arrival. If a visitor has symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19, the visit will be rescheduled. A resident with COVID-19 who does not meet the CDC criteria for discontinuing transmission-based precautions may not participate in visitation, except for end-of-life situations and with appropriate PPE. End of life visitation will still be permitted inside.

Surfaces in the visitation area will be sanitized between visits. Each visiting area will have hand sanitizer for use before and after the visit. Staff will maintain the visitation area as well as the screening log of all visitors. All residents will sanitize their hands prior to re-entering the building.

Both residents and visitors must wear a surgical mask or cloth face covering for the duration of the visit. Visitors are required to supply their own face covering.

The visitation area will include seating for the resident and one visitor at no less than 6-foot spacing that is visibly segregated. Social distancing will be monitored during the visit to protect the safety of all residents. No food/beverage or pets shall be permitted during visitation. All items brought from home for a resident must follow the established procedure for drop-offs and deliveries at the main entrance.

We know many residents and families are disappointed about restrictions on visitation and they would like it to be as before. It’s important that we move ahead responsibly, maintaining the safety of everyone as we slowly and thoughtfully begin visitation under state mandates and guidelines.
